Unit 14

P1 (Yes the covers are all pre-production stuff too)

A required featured article

this information is meant to go with my pictochart work that I produced on their website and saved there.

for my possible magazine 'backstage', I would probably want to make an article perhaps about this rising star among film directors (gives me an excuse for an easier to shoot subject image). perhaps how the first film was a hit success and how this new film in the works is going well...
to bring this across in a subject image, I could probably set myself up in some compact chair steriotypical of a film director, get myself a paper megaphone and photoshop out the background of the image, replacing it with a green plain like I was at a green screen. I could also change some of the blues to cyan on the cover to highlight the greenscreen backdrop. Just made another edited design for backstage with this subject image in mind. Its with the other ones on pictochart.

Another possible idea is a 'Kafka-esque' situation wherein a teenager is suddenly on the american governments most wanted list for reasons unknown to him as he is forced to go on the run from pretty much everyone in the world. It would be infinitely easier to get props and an actor for and is generally much, much easier to shoot for the front cover.

for 'total critic', the story would likely be if this promised blockbuster with a high budget getting panned for its surprising poor quality of script. lets say its some unwanted matrix-style thing  where everyone needs to act all serious and wear trenchcoats and it already sounds like a horrible idea. perhaps I could edit my original knock-up concept for the total critic cover (best to have that open when reading this) but with more greyed out or darker colours for the text not on the yellow highlights, but with the yellow highlights retaining their colour and more critical but non-serious and reality-grounded feel, as if mocking the current more serious tone. I also just added my simple design tweaks to the design after duplicating it so it should be with the other magazine cover ideas.

Movie Magazine Analysis

My ingrained camerashy nature and being put somewhat on the spot might've lowered the quality of my set choices, them being all outside and therefore subject to weather and time changes.

the monitor at eye level is to avoid neck ache or pains.
'monitor roughly arms length away' stops eye strain
keep a straight angled back to avoid pains or permanent damage. keeping wrists bent to a minimum stops damage in the wrist muscles. keeping elbows close to your sides stops shoulder or elbow strain. the back of your knees shouldn't be touching the edge of the seat as this can cause strain on the leg muscles. keep the feet flat on the floor to avoid heel pains.

Its important to take a 10 minute break from work every hour to avoid muscle or eye strain. its best to take this opportunity to go get a drink or just get off of the seat and walk about a bit.

Legal and Ethical issues that could be encountered here:

LEGAL

Issue

Solved or justified?
One of my three outlines possible shoot locations features a piece of art by someone on the long road site.
II would need the consensus of either the artist or the art department to shoot using it
It is legally mandated to have a barcode on any product such as this however my drafts of covers don’t feature any possible location for a bar code.
Since the drafts have already been done, there isn’t much point in going back to edit them. When creating my final product, I’ll have to keep in mind to have a bar code this time.
Mentioning or referencing real world studios or companies on the cover in a non-slanderous sense
This probably isn’t illegal but is likely to raise a cease and desist anyway as companies tend to be a bit touchy about this sort of thing. For a quick and clean solution, best to use parody or fake alternative names. E.G Marvel could become Inspirational Vision studios (trying to get names that mean the same thing here)

ETHICAL

Issue

Solved or justified?
Knowing my typical writing, it might be worth saying that I might need to restrain my use of swears on the cover. The content is fine so long as I have an age rating but the cover tends to be a no-no for swearing.
My magazine cover is meant to have a limited colour palette to make it seem more professional. Best not mess that up with a colourful vocabulary

There should only be a single character on the cover, not giving people room to complain about the overrepresentation of white males.
